Social Media, The Cloud, and Content – Who Owns it All?


The fact that Instagram announced their privacy policy changes on a Monday in mid December, after a tragic event, and giving users less than a month to digest the information before the policy took effect makes me wonder. Did they believe they could get this by people unnoticed? That is pretty naive and arrogant of them if true. In the end we as consumers have to begin to consider the costs of using free apps and web-based solutions. Businesses need to reevaluate their models as well. Maybe in the future companies like Facebook can institute subscription fees up front so they can make their money all along. The current business model shows the difficulties in trying to find streams of revenue after you develop your subscriber base.
